In the aftermath of the devastating floods in Kerr County and the surrounding Hill Country communities, LiftFund made the news for our swift efforts to get small businesses back on their feet. The news coverage not only helped us spread the word to business owners about available funding, it amplified the efforts of our partners who were looking for ways to help.
“Roughly 40% of small businesses risk closure if they can’t access capital within two weeks of a disaster,” said LiftFund President and CEO Amy Hereford. “And another 25% may shut down within a year if delayed funding isn’t available. That’s why swift timing is so vital. It gives people a sense of strength reclaimed. It keeps families in their homes, and meals on the table.”
Disaster response has been a part of the LiftFund mission for decades – from Hurricane recovery in Houston to wildfire relief in Los Angeles. So, when donors Wells Fargo, Methodist Healthcare Ministries, H-E-B, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, Citi Foundation, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Affiliated Workers Association and Third Coast Bank were looking to help those affected by the Hill Country floods, they immediately turned to LiftFund.
Through these crucial partnerships, we have secured nearly $4 million in emergency funding for the Hill Country Disaster Relief Program. With grants up to $10,000 and interest-free loans available to small business owners impacted by the floods, the program has been a significant lift for communities affected by the devastation.
In addition to structural damage to storefronts, business owners needed help recovering lost revenues, especially those that rely on tourism in that area. And while initial efforts were focused on the areas directly impacted by the floods, especially through partnership with the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, the ongoing support from a variety of donors allowed us to extend our funding efforts across the state to people affected by flood-related tragedies, including the loss of loved ones or significant property damage.
“None of this would be possible without the support of our funding partners, donors, and our community,” Hereford said. “We’re deeply grateful for those who have already contributed and shared in our mission. Your support helps LiftFund reach the business owners who need us the most, when they need us the most.”
