Accion Texas will now be known as LiftFund to reflect its expanded mission helping small businesses gain access to capital. The San Antonio-based microlender unveiled the new name on Wednesday, along with a new logo in blue and green colors with the tag line: Dream it. Fund it.
“We lift up our clients by offering a pathway to success,” said Janie Barrera, president and CEO. “By providing access to capital, we empower our clients to chart their own economic paths and achieve the American Dream.”
LiftFund took its original name from Accion U.S. Network when it was founded some 20 years ago. Back in 1994, it was a true microlender making loans in the $25,000 range to Texas small businesses. Since then, the nonprofit lender has grown substantially and now makes loans up to $250,000 while also working with the Small Business Administration to make even more substantial loans up to $5.5 million. It has also expanded beyond Texas to other states including Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
