The City of Corpus Christi is celebrating the success of some of our local business who have taken advantage of loans through a unique partnership with LiftFund.
LiftFund celebrated eight years of helping small business owners achieve their goals in Corpus Christi with a special event Wednesday morning.
The nonprofit provides loans and management training to startups and small businesses all over the country. It was founded in 1994 in San Antonio.
“Small businesses are so important to the economy of Corpus Christi,” said Janie Barrera, the CEO and founder of LiftFund. “If you think about it, just driving down the street, any part of Corpus Christi, you see these small business whether they’re restaurants, day cares, dog care providers any kind of small business that’s out there, they are the people that are creating the jobs. They may not be creating hundreds of jobs in one location, but creating 1, 2, 3 jobs collectively it aggregates to hundreds of thousands of jobs here.”
Jennifer Reid, who owns Threads on Everhart said LiftFund helped her secure loans when her business was rapidly expanding.
“We were outgrowing our space, we outgrew our parking lot, and so I reached out to Liftfund and they helped fund me to expand the business and move on to Everhart,” said Reid. “LiftFund definitely took the time to come to my business to get to know me as a person and as an entrepreneur and get to see my plan and vision and they worked to get me the loan and not just look at the numbers.”
Since opening its Corpus Christi office in 2004, LiftFund has made more than 720 loans totaling more than $10.8 million.
